Born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century, Saint Patrick was kidnapped at the age of 16 and spent six years as a slave in Ireland. After escaping, he became a priest in France and later returned to Ireland to convert its people to Christianity. He famously used the shamrock—a symbol of good luck—to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity.
According to legend, he also banished snakes from Ireland, symbolizing the removal of evil. To honour his memory, people wear green, the colour associated with the national symbol of Ireland, the shamrock.
Traditional foods enjoyed include Irish stew, shepherd's pie, colcannon, and Irish soda bread, often paired with a pint of Guinness or stout.
